The trip went accross several countries including Finland and Netherlands. As usual Helsinki Vantaa airport was my favorite place to start from and as usual we have spent nice and suny morning at Helsinki. The alleys behind the central railway station is my favorite place in the city, it is very nice when you have so calm nature right at the center with trains that I love from my childhood passing by. Nouse päivä yhä ylemmäksi, eeoo nosta päivä hämärän yön eteen...
Several hours by planes and much more hours waiting for delayed flights (KLM, I love you) and we are in Edinburgh where our friend Safir Secerovic meets us at the airport, big thanks.
Airport Express Coach is not for us, so first day we already had an opportunity to see Edinburgh trying to find the conference place the Teviot Row House and local buses that go there, needless to say that it is raining, it is constantly raining there.
The conference venue was in Teviot Row House on Bristo Square, the house was built in 1889, it is claimed to be the first purpose-built student union building in the world. It is a 'listed building', included on a national register which protects architecturally significant buildings from being changed.
The professional street entertainer as he calls himself. Those people are making shows on the street and you can pay them money if you liked it.
I know everybody is waiting for those, so here are my kilt photos right from Edinburgh. And for many of those who have asked, no the wind does not blow from beneath the kilt.
Edinburgh also has a big hill at the city and even something like Acropolis on the top of it, this monument, the hill and the view on Edinburgh from it reminds me about Athens.
The day trip begun from Edinburgh Waverley railway station, if you look at it you will understand why it is called 'Waverly'.
The trip was complicated and took two train and one ferry change at one way. To Glasgow by train, then by train to Wemyss Bay railway station from where the ferries going to the town of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. We have being told that the largest railway ticket transaction in Edinburgh has been made when buying tickets for all the Debian people there.
We have been split in groups by three persons in each, this way ticket is cheaper. This is my group. The photo was made inside Glasgow Central Railway Station.
The famous IBM Railway Station is on that way from Glasgow to Wemyss Bay. The station is named after the large facility formerly owned entirely by IBM, the famous corporation.
Seems that we are running out of oxygen. Did I say that the trip went two train and one ferry change that totaly equals four train and two ferry changes for the full day, plus walking between different stations. Well, this was really one of the nicest trips I have ever made. Thanks to people who organized that.
As I said the town of Rothesay is on the island, so we took a ferry, on the right photo is my friend Alexey Nikolov with him we depratured from Saint Petersburg and did the full trip to Edinburgh.
The bay of Rothesay town to which we arrived
Rothesay is a wonderful place! As you have used to, it has a hill with a park over it, we did a round trip including climbing to the hill, the park is really much like a thousand-year forest
Have you seen the lord of the rings? Here are the hobbits.
On the top of the hill there is a golf field. Golf is popular in UK, you know. I should learn to play it some day.
And some farms are there too
Down the hill there is a serpentine road which we took to return to the town, the view from it is quite wonderful
Cheese and wine party. Wine and cheese from all over the world for those who likes both or either
That is all I want to say. Hope to return there once more and hope that I have passed to you the Scotish mood.
